1 in 4 Gen Z-ers want to become social media influencers

A growing number of young social media influencers have become famous and wealthy thanks to social media, such as Addison Rae, Charli D'Amelio and James Charles.

According to a new survey by HigherVisibility, 1 in 4 Gen Z members want to emulate these celebrities, who earn millions of dollars through brand sponsorships and advertisements, but are also subjected to intense scrutiny online and off. In the survey, 16 percent of respondents said they would pay money to become an influencer.

The survey was conducted in July 2022 among 1,000 Americans between the ages of 16 and 25.

The results varied slightly by region. A majority of respondents in the West want to become a social media influencer, compared to 33 percent in the Midwest, 36 percent in the South, and 39 percent in the Northeast.

According to the data, "41% of New York Gen Zs intend on becoming influencers in the future, while 30% from Los Angeles feel the same way."

In the study, only 7.13% of Gen Z said they would not want to become social media influencers.

More than 20 percent of individuals said older generations didn't understand social media influencing, and only 8 percent reported their parents liked them on social media.
