Leaked documents detailing secret American and NATO plans for building up the Ukrainian military ahead of a planned offensive against Russia prompts Pentagon investigation
Senior officials of the Biden administration stated that this week, on social media channels, classified war documents were posted, which contain secret American and NATO plans for the buildup of the Ukrainian military in anticipation of a planned offensive against Russia.
An investigation is being conducted by the Pentagon to determine the identity of the individuals responsible for leaking the documents. The documents were posted on Twitter and Telegram, a platform that has over five hundred million users and is widely accessible in Russia.
According to military analysts, the documents seem to have undergone some modifications, which altered certain parts of the original format. These modifications resulted in an overstatement of American estimates of Ukrainian war casualties and an understatement of estimates of Russian troops killed.
The analysts suggested that the modifications may indicate Moscow's intention to spread disinformation. However, the original documents, which consist of photographs of charts detailing anticipated weapons deliveries, troop and battalion strengths, and plans, reveal a substantial compromise of American intelligence efforts to assist Ukraine.
As of Thursday evening, the Biden administration officials were attempting to have the documents removed, but they had not yet achieved success.
“We are aware of the reports of social media posts and the department is reviewing the matter,” said Sabrina Singh, the deputy press secretary at the Pentagon.
